Day 314 "Quiet Harbor" 6 x 9 ink, marker, pencils

We are home from Mohegan Island, but still feeling the quiet and peace of mind.  It is hot and sticky here at home.  I long for the breeze and cool of Monhegan's climate.  So, here is a drawing of the harbor at dusk one quiet evening.  The boat in the foreground is from an Outward Bound type of outing, and sleeps a surprising number of people, sardine-style, under a tarp within its hull.  The harbor is lovely in the evening as the sun sets below Manana, and dark descends.
This is my three hundred fourteenth daily drawing.  Thank you for your continued interest.

Day 294 "Over Eider" ink & watercolor 9 x 9

Another beautiful day here on Monhegan.  We went to a Chowder Festival to benefit the Monhegan Memorial Library, then I headed over near the church under a shady tree to draw lovely Manana, through the cottages.  The cottage to the left is called "Eider Duck" and sits on Fish beach.  I love the back drop of Manana behind and above the structures.  While I was sitting there, a nice couple in a golf cart stopped to ask directions. We wound up talking for about 1/2 hour about art, the island, their journey here and mine.  It was a very sweet exchange and lifted my heart.  Thanks, Joanne and Ed.
This is my two hundred ninety-fourth daily drawing.  Thank you for your continued interest in my day to day activities.

"Harbor Watch" 9 x 5 mixed

I am enjoying exploring old photos for my daily drawings.  I captured this image of one of Monhegan's cottages along the harbor, with an unknown gentleman looking out at Manana and the harbor beneath him.  His silhouette intrigued me.  I added only a hint of color to the buoys in the foreground to move the eye around, but otherwise, all color is in or through the building.
This is my seventy-eighth daily drawing.  Your feedback lets me know you are enjoying this exploration.  Believe me, I am having a wonderful time exploring.  Thank you.

"Monhegan Harbor" after Aldro Hibbard, pencil and ink

This past weekend, I spent a few hours at a fascinating conference on hunger and homeless.  Very interesting, packed with information from the Southeast Area Missions.  I bring my sketch book wherever I go, and found the time to do some sketches of lovely Monhegan Island, including the lower sketch which is my copy of Aldro Hibbard's painting of "Monhegan Harbor" of which I carry an image in my sketchbook.  It's so beautiful, and I love that I sit on the same rocks that Aldro Hibbard, Rockwell Kent, Winslow Homer and many, many others painted so well, so long ago.

Monhegan Sketchbook July 2

Today was an interesting day (as they all are) here on Monhegan.  A friend stopped by for a breakfast visit.  We compared notes about daughters heading off to college.  She commissioned me to do a painting for her friend as a wedding gift.  On my way out to the harbor, I chatted with a couple of people and was invited into their homes for a look see.  I love looking at the homes here on the island!   Each is unique, offers its own views and angles of the beloved island.  Today was a bonus day as I was privileged to see two interesting, rustic homes.

There is some pretty good chop going on in the harbor perhaps due to Hurricane Arthur marching up the coast.  I love sitting by the waves, and absorbing their heady rhythm.  I made my way down to the harbor to do some drawing, and was pleasantly surprised by my husband showing up to hang out, followed shortly thereafter by our daughter and her friend.  The four of us hung out while I pulled out my sketchbook.

I'll probably lay some watercolor into these drawings, but here's today's efforts.  Oh, look at the second picture up top.  Squashed bugs are the hallmark of artists painting on location!

Thanks for looking.  As always, I love your comments.
