Exploring shapes from the local trees at night. I painted a rectangle of ink, then applied pastel on top leaving the tree shapes behind. I added the moon, and some moonlight in the sky radiating out; then softened the edge of the trees.

Our beautiful town has many gorgeous vistas, views of the South River included. The river and its tributaries create silvery ribbons that narrow in the distance. In this drawing, I laid down a field of black ink, and applied layers of pastel over it. I like some of the effect. This is my three hundred ninth daily drawing. Thank you for your continued interest and comments.
Although spring begins tomorrow, we have been hit by nor'easter after nor'easter storm this month. March came in like a lion, then morphed into a dragon. In fact, they are calling this week's storm "four'easter". The snow is beautiful on the ground. Across the street are a number of pines, leaning into the hill. I love the way their shadows descend down the hill below the trees. The snow has so many colors in it. It is gorgeous.

Caught these men heading over the grass on their way to fish off some Maine rocks. They look a little like a father and son walking a path they have walked many times before; moving in comfortable silence in the sparkling sunshine.
I did a light contour in pen and then used india ink in several washes. I added some china white pencil in a few places at the end. This is my hundred sixteenth daily drawing. Each involves ink in some way. Thanks for looking.
Today my art project students began exploring value. I gave them black paper and white crayons, and showed them how to look at a black and white image of a round object, observing the zones of light. I showed them how to use a white crayon to reproduce the different values from 1 to 4 using various pressure with the crayon, leaving the black paper as the darkest. They produced some very interesting work and are beginning to see.
I made a couple of sample works. First I painted a rectangle of india ink, the use only the white crayon to draw my subject. Below is a simple ball I drew to demonstrate the zones of light.
